Angels
You have watched over me from the moment I was conceived
You saw me take my first steps and utter my first words
You witnessed a glimpse of the real parts of me
Before they were squashed, crushed and trampled upon
You saw a perfectly created soul
Become corrupted and defiled by sin and error
You already knew the battle I would face
In removing these poisonous barbs
And the cost they would have on my life
Even before I could count to 10.
Your heart broke for me.
You watched me grow, watched me learn
When I laughed, you laughed with me
When I was curious, you encouraged me to ask questions
When I cried as a child, you ministered to me in harsh surroundings.
When I started to ask serious questions about life
And was desperate to know if God did exist
You led me to your, our brother and sister, Jesus and Mary
The ones who I know you love so very much
You encouraged me to try the experiment
To open my heart to God
You witnessed my heart turn from one of stone
To one of flesh.
You saw me make many mistakes
Become reckless with the gift of free will
You have pulled me out of some dangerous situations
Ones that I got myself into
Away from the constant influences of the evil ones
Wolves clothed as sheep
Those visible but also invisible.
I went through a time not too long ago when I thought I had lost you
I felt you were not there for me anymore
It was a feeling that felt almost too much to bare
But now I know you were
And that you had to step back
So I could learn some lessons for my own.
You have been the only person in my life, other than God
Who has been with me in every moment
Not only for the happiest moments of my life
But more importantly, during the very worst
And what’s more, you want nothing for it all.
To realise all of this brings me both tears of joy and sadness
How could I ever thank you?
The selfless acts of love
Time and time again,
Constantly, throughout my life.
When I say that you must have sometimes been bored
Sometimes looked on at my choices through your fingers
And for some crazy reason, you must still love me because you are still here,
You laugh, and tell me that in the youthful days of your soul journey
You made many mistakes, but have since learnt from them
That you have been loved just as much
And that I will, with my whole heart
Wish to do the same for others
As has been done unto me.
You know sin, know the difficulties, and know all too well that it is not easy
You know all the steps along the way
You’ve seen me climb some, stay stuck on some, and even fall back down some
When I slipped, you set me aright
On the path which is narrow and straight
But the one that leads to life.
You encouraged me time and time again,
To face the blackness
The empty void within
where the dearth of love exists
To not judge it, but see it as it is.
You remind me that you also chose this for yourself
To follow the only way to become free from all sin and error forevermore
A choice and invitation open to us all
To become immortal, be born again
And that God and the Love of God for her children
Is the only one being and substance which can make this possible.
You are quick to tell me that all good things come from God
“Pray and have faith”
And that if I only realise a little of how much you must love me
Just how much more God must love me.
An Angel, truly, in every sense of the word
Selfless, caring, truthful, consistent, full of love
Quick to offer their own thanks and appreciation
When being thanked themselves
Who delight in being of service
Offering a gentle hand to help pull others up to experience a happiness shared.
To have a guide is truly one of the greatest gifts of God
To all of us who live on this planet
Steeped in sin, pain and suffering
Whichever way you turn
We, who wander and fumble along in the darkness of the night
You, who have already fought the battle and won
A little slice of heaven bought to us to share the ride.
I do not have much,
But what I do have is more important than anything money could buy
I have a soul, a life
Scars that remind me of lessons learned
Ones left still to learn
And a truly special friend.
All I can say is thank you
I love you
And as you yourself are quick to say,
I thank God above it all.
