"Film about the life of Georgiana, the Duchess of Devonshire, her husband, lovers and children. The theme of sexual discrimination relates to the role of the Duchess in producing a male and legitimate heir (girls could not inherit the title/lands), the differing treatment of men and women after adultery including society's perceptions and shame and the powerless of women in making decisions about their and their children's lives in contrast to the choices available to men at the time."
