The Choice

2nd August 2023NickyHome Truths, Lessons of Life, Poems, The Way

The Choice

You are the one who’s Love is without limit

Your Love transcends all sin, pain and suffering

And makes it clean, makes me clean

Your Love sees what is broken,

The shipwrecks of my heart laying at the bottom of the ocean

Brings me to the surface, fixes me

Gives me new sails, direction and purpose

Your Love makes all things new

Repentance, a word that stirs up dread in the hearts of many,

Those locked in the daze of their own stupor, run away

They slip and fall off the narrow path,

The potential of their triumph delayed indefinitely

Fleeting pleasures of allurements will be their lot,

Pain and suffering will be their primary teachers for now

Teachers I have been greatly acquainted with

But you reach out your hand and say,

That instead, your Love can be my teacher

Repentance is to not be feared,

That it is, can only be embraced with my whole heart

Like the bestest, oldest friend I have never met,

That repentance is truly the start of my relationship with You,

Such is your conviction,

In the scales of Heavenly Justice, and that

For what is deemed right and good for one,

Is deemed right and good for all

Repentance is a Divine Law of the Universe,

The greatest of all Laws, alongside Forgiveness

When I turn my back to it, I also turn my back on You,

And the Great Love You have for me

So, in your unending Love,

Help awaken me from my slumber

And show me Lord, what is it I must atone for?

I freely walk into the dock of Your Court,

As an innocent man to the eyes of this world

Clothed and without handcuffs, I stand

Though in my heart, I stand as an outlaw,

Naked and more handcuffed,

Than my hands could ever be

I long to hear Your Verdict

Yet I already know I am guilty

Transgressions etched on my soul

The record of my sin is shown before me

It is I who must read out my own sentence

Sincerity sharpened, a necessity

Nigh time for me to recollect

Your judgement righteous, I bow my head

You judge me with Kindness, Mercy, and Compassion

It is not an eternal condemnation,

But rather a starting point based in reality

True justice, with Love and complete accountability as its foundation

The pain of those wronged, paramount and given a voice

The degree of responsibility, squarely attributed upon my shoulders,

No more, no less

Ascribed by the Perfect Law,

Born of a Perfect God

To see my sin in the light of Your Love

Is the greatest equaliser in the Universe

The waves of sorrow and remorse unearthed, gut-wrenching to the core

Greater than any wrath, punishment or anger could ever hope to achieve

With Your Verdict, the crushing weight of the sin I have carried,

Has somehow become easier to bear

Your judgement carries more gravitas then that of any man

Especially levelled by those yet to step foot into Your Court

Still not worn out by the heavy armours

Of arrogance and ignorance they still carry

My path has been lit, my senses sharpened

The doors to Divine Redemption and Transformation have been opened before me

In Your Goodness and Mercy,

You lift me up and beckon me home

Expiation, my course,

Reparations my respite,

Forgiveness my destination

Forgiveness of my sin, and for those who have sinned against me

To be forgiven, I must also learn to forgive

Grace abounds,

I lay down my life and soul upon your altar of restoration

Utterly reliant upon its miracles

Lord, help me understand the real power of Love

Your Love, Holy

The greatest thing in all the world?

“Faith and prayer on the part of mortals

And Love – Divine Love on the part of God,

The latter is waiting, and the former causes it to enter into the souls of men”

Words a wise man once said*

And to that I say,

No truer or more beautiful words were spoken

Aside those of the Master

Our relationship on your end is done,

It is only I who can delay the inevitable,

My destiny, of which there are only two

The Divine Angel or the perfect natural man?

A home in the Celestial Heavens, or one in the Spiritual Heavens?

I choose the former of each,

So long as the gift of Your Love,

And the great many provisions that it brings,

Remain open to me
